What is biotin and how does it work?
Biotin for hair growth is receiving much attention nowadays, and much of it has been contributed by none other than me and thousands of others that wants to grow their hair fast. Did you know that when it was discovered in 1927, it took around 40 years for it to be considered as a vitamin?
Yes it was treated like a wall flower, always in the sidelines. But after having been overlooked for nearly four decades, it is now getting the attention it deserves. Biotinis not made by our body since it is not a natural part of us. We can only ingest it from those made by bacteria, yeasts, fungi, molds and other plants that winds up in our food. In effect, we can get enough biotin by eating a normal diet as long as we don’t have a medical condition or genetic incapacity that hinders biotin absorption in the body. This is a very important vitamin needed by the body, working as a co-enzyme for the catalysts that are responsible in the metabolism of essential nutrients. Although it is not easy to be biotin deficient, it is still possible. And when you are, it should be treated as fast as possible. People with epilepsy, intestinal problems, kidney failure and alcoholics need to take biotin supplements to keep these diseases at bay.
How is biotin for hair growth used?
As mentioned earlier, even though there is an abundance of biotin, it is still possible that we’ll have a deficiency with this nutrient. It can be best found in carrots, eggs, dairy products, yogurt, beans and mushrooms and etc.
But, as we grow old, the ability of the body to absorb nutrients becomes inefficient through the years. And also, much of the biotin present in food is lost due to overcooking. It might have been lost even before it reached our plates. For those whose hair lines started receding already, or for people who are clinging on to small amounts of hair left in their heads, it is not enough to rely on normal dosage; they have to take more than the recommended amount of biotin. These can be achieved in two ways, for one, you can drink biotin supplements, and second, you can use hair care products that are rich with this vitamin. The first option is a much better choice because the biotin will be directly metabolized by the body, so it works from within. The second is not as effective as the first one mainly because it works from the outside. If these two are combined, it will maximize the effect because one will work its way from the follicles to the tip while the other will start from the strands until it reach the follicles.
Side effects of Biotin for hair growth supplements
The truth is there is no reported side effect of biotin even if you go beyond the recommended daily dose. There is no single incident where a person suffered from biotin overdose. Actually, there were studies conducted to know what is the exact level of biotin tolerance but when a very high dose of biotin was injected, there were still no ill effects. This actually scared me at first because I thought I popped too much biotin supplements but hooray, I’m safe, alive and now have lots of healthy hair.
